Physiotherapy Questions, Answered

The questions patients ask us most often. If yours is not here, call the clinic — we are happy to talk it through before you book.

Physiotherapy is a clinical treatment that restores movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability. It uses hands-on techniques, prescribed exercise and supporting equipment to reduce pain and rebuild strength — without medication or surgery.

It depends entirely on your condition. A simple muscle strain may resolve in four to six sessions, while post-surgical or neurological rehabilitation can run for several months. After your first assessment you will be given a realistic estimate rather than an open-ended commitment.

No. You can book directly with us. If your assessment suggests the problem needs medical imaging or a specialist opinion, we will tell you clearly and help you arrange it.

Treatment should not be sharply painful. Some techniques cause temporary discomfort, and stiff joints can ache for a day afterwards, but we work within limits you set. Tell your physiotherapist at any point and the technique will be adjusted.

The needles used are extremely fine — far thinner than an injection needle — and most people barely feel them going in. When the needle reaches a trigger point you may feel a brief twitch or deep ache that passes within seconds. Mild soreness for a day afterwards is normal. Every needle is sterile and single-use.

Dry cupping uses suction alone to lift and decompress the tissue, leaving temporary circular marks that fade over several days. Wet cupping additionally involves very small superficial incisions before the cup is applied, performed under sterile technique. Which is appropriate for you is decided after assessment.

Yes. Home visit physiotherapy is available for patients who cannot travel — typically after major surgery, after a stroke, or for elderly patients. We bring portable equipment and also assess your home for safety.

A very wide range: back and neck pain, sciatica, slip disc, frozen shoulder, arthritis, sports injuries, post-surgical recovery, stroke and paralysis, vertigo, and developmental conditions in children. If you are unsure whether we can help, call and ask.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows access to the affected area — shorts for knee problems, a vest or loose top for shoulders. Bring any X-rays, MRI scans or reports you have, along with a list of current medication.

Not if the underlying cause has been addressed and you keep up your home programme. Recurrence is most common when people stop their exercises as soon as the pain settles, which is why we spend time on prevention in your final sessions.
